Ambassador Melkonian meets Secretary General of the League of Arab States

On May 29, Armenian Ambassador to Egypt H.E. Dr. Armen Melkonian had a meeting with Secretary General of the League of Arab States H.E. Mr. Nabil al-Arabi.

The perspectives of the cooperation between Armenia and the League of Arab States, the current level and the opportunities for the development of Armenia’s bilateral relations with Arab countries, as well as regional issues of bilateral interest were discussed.

Ambassador Melkonian presented Nabil al-Arabi with the latest developments of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.

The LAS Secretary General particularly underlined the Armenians’ great contributions to the public life in different Arab countries.

The League of Arab States was established in 1945 as the only interregional organization uniting Arab countries. It currently has 22 member states. Nabil al-Arabi assumed the office of LAS Secretary General in July 2011. The cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the League of Arab States is on the basis of the Memorandum of Mutual Understanding signed in 2005. Since 2008, the RA Ambassador to Egypt has been accredited to the LAS as a plenipotentiary representative as well.
