Book on Armenian Genocide presented in Cairo

04 May, 2012

As part of the events dedicated to the 97th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Cairo, the Armenian Embassy in Egypt on May 3 organized a meeting with publisher and chief editor of The California Courier Harut Sassounian, as well as the presentation of the second publication of Sassounian's book "Armenian Genocide: The World Speaks Out, 1915-2005: Documents and Declarations" in Arabic.

The event was attended by members of the Egyptian-Armenian community, foreign diplomats, Egyptian intellectuals, as well as public figures and journalists.

In his opening speech, Ambassador Armen Melkonian highly appreciated Sassounian’s contribution to international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and community service. Prominent genocide expert, Armenologist, Dr. Mohammad Refaat El-Imam, who is also the author of the prelude of the new publication, appreciated Sassounian's book as an interesting attempt to sum up the important documents and declarations related to international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and briefly present them to readers. In his speech, Harut Sassounian criticized Turkey's policy of denial and touched upon the current stage of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Note: The book “Armenian Genocide: The World Speaks Out, 1915-2005: Documents and Declarations” was first published in Arabic in Beirut in 2005 and was translated by Nora Arisian. The second Arabic version was published by the initiative of the committee commemorating the Armenian Genocide in order to make it accessible to Egyptian readers.
