Egypt's Culture Minister receives Ambassador of Armenia

Armenian Ambassador to Egypt H.E. Dr. Armen Melkonian met Tuesday with Egyptian Culture Minister H.E. Dr. Shaker Abdel Hamid. The current state of the Armenian-Egyptian cooperation in the sphere of culture and the development prospects were discussed.

Ambassador Armen Melkonian informed the minister about the celebrations on 500th anniversary of Armenian book printing and proclamation of Yerevan a book capital 2012, conveying the invitation of the organization committee to attend the opening ceremony in April.

The parties agreed to hold more frequent joint cultural events, beginning with a classical concert in Cairo marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Armenia. They also discussed facilitating the work cross-culture institutions and extending current agreements.

Culture Minister Shaker Abdel Hamid congratulated on proclamation of Yerevan a book capital 2012 and highlighted the role of the Egyptian-Armenian community in development of culture in Egypt.

It is also worth mentioning that some Armenian films are participating in the International Children’s Cinema Festival to take place in Cairo next month – in addition to the Armenian participation in the International Experimental Theatre Festival.
