The meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Egypt

24 may, 2025

On March 9 in Cairo the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, who was invited to the Ministerial Session of the Council of the League of Arab States, had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Sameh Shoukry.

The interlocutors commended the high-level political dialogue between the Armenian and Egyptian peoples based on centuries-old friendship. Both sides expressed confidence that the historic visit of the President of Egypt to Armenia in January will be a new impetus for the expansion of bilateral cooperation.

Ararat Mirzoyan and Sameh Shoukry exchanged views on the prospects of cooperation between the two countries in trade and economy, information technologies, tourism and other spheres. In this regard, the importance of holding the next (6th) session of the Armenian-Egyptian intergovernmental commission as well as activation of business ties was highlighted.

During the meeting, issues of international and regional security and stability were touched upon.

Minister Mirzoyan briefed his counterpart on the recent developments in the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the efforts of the Armenian side to establish peace and stability in the region as well as the escalation of the tension in Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan in recent days. The Foreign Minister of Armenia emphasized that Azerbaijan continues the blockade of the Lachin corridor, grossly violating the commitments undertaken under the Trilateral Statement of November 9, 2020.

Touching upon Armenia’s traditional friendly relations with the countries of the Arab world, Minister Mirzoyan considered inadmissible the speculations of the religious factor by Azerbaijan and groundless attempts aimed at giving a religious dimension to exclusively political and humanitarian issues and misleading the international community.

Both sides stressed the importance of keeping the attention of the international community towards the region and the constructive involvement of interested actors.

Minister Mirzoyan also briefed his counterpart on the normalization process of Armenia-Turkey relations.
