RA President’s Award handed during a solemn ceremony at the RA Ministry of Diaspora

On November 7, prominent Egyptian-Armenian figure, writer, publicist, advisor of Areg Daily Berge Terzian was awarded the RA President’s Award during a solemn ceremony at the RA Ministry of Diaspora.

RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan briefly presented Berge Terzian’s public activities, creations and career in journalism and underlined the great attributes of the prominent figure. Since 1957, Terzian has actively participated in and has played an important role in the Egyptian-Armenian community. He has held responsible offices of the AGBU, the Tekeyan Cultural Association and the diocesan council. Terzian is author of a monograph a more than 60 articles. Since 1977, he has been a member of Arev Daily’s board of editors, and has been consultant editor of Arev Arab-language magazine (1998-2009) and Areg Arab-language magazine (since April 2010). Since the late 1970s, Terzian has released articles on the nation and the culture in Arev magazine.

By the decree of RA President Serzh Sargsyan, Berge Terzian has received the Mkhitar Gosh Medal in light of the 20th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Armenia and for his weighty contribution to the preservation of Armenian identity, services for the homeland and the strengthening of friendship between the Republic of Armenia and foreign countries.

Handing the RA President’s Award, Minister Hakobyan praised Terzian’s role in the Egyptian-Armenian community and underlined his unconditional dedication to solving issues of national concern.

There to congratulate Terzian and express their words of appraisal were Prelate of the Armenian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Egypt (as well as Ethiopia, Sudan and South Africa), Bishop Ashot Mnatsakanyan, Head of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences Ashot Melkonyan, Deputy Director of the AGBU Armenian Representation Hovik Yordekyan and others.

Expressing gratitude to the RA President and the RA Minister of Diaspora for the high award and to the gathered for their kind words and wishes, Terzian mentioned that he was lucky to witness the independence of Armenia, celebrate the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence and feel that the government cares for the Diaspora. He wished that Armenia be stronger, the leader, viable and overcome all difficulties.
